The Shared Story of the Hebrew Bible

The Hebrew Bible contains 39 biblical books from the Torah (Genesis through Deuteronomy), Prophets, and Writings. It is also known as the Jewish Bible or Tanakh to Jews and as the Old Testament to Christians. The Hebrew Bible is approximately 75% of a standard Christian Bible.

The Hebrew Bible was written mostly in Hebrew, with some parts in Aramaic (a related language). English translations are, of course, only translations. That is why we see differences with how some of the Hebrew/Aramaic words and phrases are rendered. Hearing the scriptures in their original languages can be a powerful experience for people.

Many Jews express that the idea of having a personal relationship with God and receiving Guidance, insight, inner healing, physical healing, and deliverance from God sound like “Christian” concepts. However, these are all very well represented within the Hebrew Bible.

For more insight into this, please see Praying the Jewish Scriptures, a book containing 500+ passages from the Hebrew Bible that explain how to deepen one’s relationship with God.
